It’s stunning how many of you hop on the brown nosing bandwagon when it comes to any kind of negative feedback for the sake of Spoony’s feelings, ease up, I’m sure he can handle it.

Before I get flamed for hating, let me just state: I have been a fan of Spoony for a long time, perhaps longer than most of you, but I know not all of you. I’ve seen all of his movies, read most of his reviews, and I will continue to keep the faith. I started watching his stuff ever since I found his “Heroes of the Lance” video, when he had just a handful of crappy game reviews. I started with Spoony, so Ill always favor him over the Nerd or the Critic, despite (I think) being less popular. I’ve linked countless cideos to friends, and even got a couple people to keep an all seeing eye on his updates even better than I have, but lets get down to business.

You cant honestly use the “Stop complaining, its not like you could do better” argument, despite how badly people want to believe in it. If that were the case, We would have to sift through an even more massive pile of shit to get to any quality entertainment, be it movies/games/music/whatever, I see that half-assed excuse countless times in poorly made art and webcam youtube videos too many times. People can tell when something is good or bad, and for what Spoony does, I can safely say its good or else he would have stopped trying long ago (Due to no motivation, donations, compliments, CRITICISM, etc.).

Also, if I remember right, upon reading Spoony’s “Star Wars: Episode III” review. I’m pretty sure in multiple locations throughout the review (and if I’m wrong, the opinion I’m about to state is WIDELY shared) Spoony favors the older Star Wars movies. Now why would this be, Perhaps its proof that despite how good at something someone is, they can make poor material? That you don’t have to be required to like every single thing someone makes? And perhaps just as important, Flashy effects doesn’t make a masterpiece (though I still don’t see where you guys get the basis to say a “In 5 Seconds” review takes hours to make).

There has been an obvious change ever since the “TGWTG TEAM BRAWL” video came out in the content of reviews. You have all noticed the crossovers, people paying homage to others jokes (ACHUCKANORIIIIIIIS!! ring a bell?). Now obviously its not all bad, the “Robowar” was one of the best reviews Ive seen in months, but that doesn’t mean I want to see each critic fall to the point where they just play off of each others puns. That would only lead to the problem, as Djinn8 above said, of using inside jokes. Meaning that unless someone has extensively watched all of each critics movies, its impossible to get them all, and God forbid if you were a new viewer.

Fact of the matter is, don’t get butthurt because someone is knocking a role model of yours. Hell for all you know Spoony actually accepts the criticism with open arms, why would you deny him a chance to read something and think about it, before getting to your asinine posts (looking at you Nyteshade, despite how clever you think you are, your attempt at making Tai MT look juvenile only backfired for anyone that has the sense to see it.) about how Spoony worked so hard he is above any and all criticism.

To Spoony (assuming he uses the comments for anyhting more than eating popcorn and laughing at flamewars): Keep up the good work, been a fan for a long time, and I hope you continue to fight your way to crappy game/movie critic fame. I will keep watching.

@Tai MT: You can’t be seriously comparing flame wars to declaring jihad? Also, what’s with the random apostrophe and capitalization (Ji’Had)? I think maybe you’re being too serious. I agree that the five second videos are boring crap, but DAMN, man.

i was rewatching all of spoonys vlogs a few days ago and i saw how alot of you said he did this for free, well i remembered something spoony said in one of them (dont know wich cuz i usually dont watch the vid itself, just listen) wich was “right now im getting great revenue from the videos so please rewatch them if you want or want to help” or something like that, its not a direct quote as much as it is a summary. Anyway, these 5 secs ARE lazy no matter who you are, you can download a free editing tool, then its a game of cut\paste. and i understand why he does it, it gives him revenue, and it gives fans a quick laugh, easy as that, and the occasional flaming (wich brings alot of traffick to his site, and, in turn, revenue)

because even if you hate me for saying this to you, there is no santa claus!!! And EVERYBODY NEEDS MONEY! and i dont mind that Noah makes money off me watching his vids, in fact i hate the 5 sec format because i prefer a half hour of laughs every other day than 1 quick one a day or so, but i watch it to support noah. it cost me 10 seconds of my time to watch the whole thing, and i dont really feel 10 seconds closer to death was wasted either, yea i didnt laugh, ive seen\heard the zuul gag too many times already, but im sure he got a few cents off me playing it, and it didnt cost me a thing.

So to sum up, 5 secs are lazy, but it helps spoony give us more quality stuff later on, he DOES make money off this site, maybe not to make a living but a handsome allowance im sure, and finally clicking it wont actually kill you, even if you dont like it.

In my honest opinion i think hes working on something big or long to be released in the near future, and release these 5 secs for the abovementioned reasons and to keep our attention until he finishes it.

If i did misspell some things (wich im 90% sure i did) i apologise. I’m Norvegian and i’m sticking to that excuse.

Are we REALLY still doing this? There’s an ENTIRE FORUM on this site, where you can do all the arguing you want. The comments segment should be SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THE CONTENT OF THE VIDEO, right?

I’ve got nothing against debate. Debate is healthy, keeps your brain working. But for goodness sake people, can you please at least pick a better place for your discussions? I’m sincerely baffled at the amount of comments that have next to nothing to do with this specific video.

@Tai MT

Why don’t you just go into the forum, start your own topic, and argue your points there? You’ll be exposing your viewpoint to a lot more people, and you’d probably get a lot more thoughtful discourse in a more suitable climate for discussion.

This is my “desperate attempt” to try and diffuse the situation. If you don’t like it, fine. You don’t have to listen to me. I don’t have any authority at all, and I’m not ordering you to do squat. This is just a suggestion from a cool head. If you pay attention to it in the least, I’ll be happy. If you don’t? I won’t even give it a second look. I just felt the need to put my two cents on the table, I did what I wanted, and now I’m satisfied with that. Do what you want, but please at least think on what I’ve said.

Anyone got marshmellows I can toast in this lovely flame war? You hate makes them extra tasty.

somerandomdrewpickles September 29, 2009 at 3:42 am

@ Tai MT: Get over it.

Seriously, I don’t care much for 5 Second videos either, but if Spoony wants to make them, let him. He’s not going to stop making reviews just so he can make 5 Second videos, it’s just something he does in between reviews.

110
Glorax September 29, 2009 at 4:09 am

Hey guys, I am having trouble watching the videos. On TGWTG and here the blip videos aren’t working for me. Does anyone know what happened lately?

111
Tai MT September 29, 2009 at 4:31 am

@Threadweaver

What I had to say in here didn’t warrent a topic in the forums. What I had to say was about Five Second Gags and was targetted at Spoony. It wasn’t until other people started flaming me that it became about more than that.

You see, my initial post didn’t need it’s own topic in a forum. It wasn’t something “up for debate”. It was a, “Hey, Spoony, this is my opinion, short and sweet” comment.

It would’ve stayed that way too, if not for the people who decided to flame me for having my opinion. Or the people who took my opinion personally, despite the fact that it was directed at Spoony and not at them.

I thought about what you wrote and decided that it was erroneous. Yeah, it’s commendable… But it ultimately means nothing. There’s no reason to start a topic solely based on opinion. Especially about a subject that is apparantly very flame-worthy. The topic would degenerate into little more than a flamewar and be reduced to spam. It would be a locked topic within the day. And it wouldn’t matter how much logic I brough into the discussion or how much I tried to get people to debate it intelligently (as witnessed here). It would turn into intellectually bankrupt people flaming me just because they somehow feel personally attacked, when they weren’t. It would also generate a lot of useless posts like, “if you don’t like the stuff, you can leave” and “if you don’t like the Five Second Gags, you don’t have to watch them”.

I’m sorry, but better to have the comments section spammed than a forum. I’d rather not waste time on something like this in a forum or waste space on it. There are other more useful and entertaining topics in the forum.

But, if you want to look at the reason this discussion is still going, if you’re wanting to fault someone… You need only look in a mirror. People decided to take my five setences and blow them out of proportion. People decided that dissenting opinion should be met with “extreme prejudice”. People decided that typing “I don’t agree” to me wasn’t enough.

And maybe I did get a little extreme towards them, maybe I did go a bit overboard… But honestly, I’m not going to let ignorant people remain ignorant. “If a good man does nothing, that is evil enough”.

Now, please do not take this comment as some kind of personal insult. It’s not. I’m just saying that starting a topic on this in the forums would be pointless. First of all, you assume I wanted debate on the subject. I did not. I wanted to leave a comment specifically for spoony, like so many others do (ex: “Great job, Spoony!”). It didn’t become a “debate” or “argument” until someone showed up, decided to “@Tai MT” and then post. At which point it turned from a harmless negative comment into a debate/flamewar. Now, if I had wanted this to start with, I’d have posted it in the forums. But, because it’s not there, that’s obviously not what I wanted. You also take liberties with saying that -I- should have posted it in the forums. Why should I have to post it in the forums? Why not the people who disagree with me? They are the ones with a chip on their shoulder and an axe to grind. Why aren’t they singled out and told to make a topic on it, if they don’t agree with me?

Besides, the whole thing was solved with about 3 separate posts from me, and a few other posts from intelligent people, who don’t necessarly agree with me or my stance. The whole thing took up little more than 10 posts in the “Comments” section.

Do you really want that kind of spam topic in the forums? If so, I’ll go make it right now.

How about a review eh, i want my free entertainment.

Come on Spoony. Do shit in front of a camera(Literaly would be nice too).

113
JXA September 29, 2009 at 7:08 am

I don’t get all the hate. I was sort of under the impression that the Blank In 5 Seconds videos were stuff he threw together so that we could watch new shit until he got whatever bigger thing he was working on done.

114
DarkSaber September 29, 2009 at 7:46 am

Spoony, if you want something to go viral (in response to your latest twit) you gotta put a bit more effort into, ripping off the Critics “ZUUUUUL” gag is not the way it’s gonna happen.

115
Ryoku84 September 29, 2009 at 9:09 am

At Tai MT: Well put, though Spoony dosen’t start net trends, YTPS and 4chan do which is why most of them are awful and poor, if Spoony started net trends they’d probably be worth looking at. Hes had his lazy moments before and while ODST was a nice message did that pirate video have to be in four parts? Oh yea, Spoony needs money! Well get a job! Its safer then risking your reputation just to please your fans while turning off others! It is true that Spoony has a cult-like following but whaddya expect? Some English guy dubbed Yu-Gi-Oh and now he has little nazis that’ll do whatever he commands and that want to have kids with him, I’m not joking.

116
NyhtShade September 29, 2009 at 9:17 am

Alright. I feel kinda ignorant. I do apologize to Tai MT, perhaps the second post directly attacking you was a little off-topic. Ok, very off-topic and I feel kinda, well, regretful for posting it now. I figured to attempt this 5 second gag just to see if I can comprehend your accusations of Spoony as lazy, and I truthfully agree. I don’t go to say HE’S lazy, but a 5 second gag truthfully is simple, non-creative, and rather lazy to accomplish. I take back my flames towards you in humble apologies, and I see things somewhat in the same way. I too, expect a little more than that from spoony; I prefer the Let’s Play because it doesn’t feel scripted at times (even though it sometimes is) and it’s still funny. So I hope to see more of that in the future. I think, however, the 5 second movies can be funny at times done in moderation and hope to see bits more in the future, but only in bite-size pieces mixed in with the other vids I’ve come to love from Spoony. Now, my opinion doesn’t really make a difference in the long-run, so I know it doesn’t matter what I hope to see. But also I made the accusation of “Spoony can do no wrong” without looking at it fully as a blind fanboy, and I was wrong. And I realized I was acting as a troll directly attacking you as well; I’m sorry for that. Now, allow me to also say to Tommy K, I re-watched some v-logs as well trying to find the one you were referring to, and yes, he admits he does make some money from here. Perhaps it wasn’t enough to justify a server purchase; yet, I feel he makes a nice sum after thinking of all the vids he’s released realizing that he gets a bit of revenue from each person watching it. even it’s only 0.05 cents a click, at 3000 views, that’s $150 for him right there. now of course you have taxes and others, but combine that with other vids he’s got. I’m not saying it’s a huge chunk, but it’s a nice sum. Anyways, I’ve said what I need to say, you can flame me, call me side-switcher, stab me with a spork, whatever. I don’t care; but after seeing how easy and just simple a 5 second is to do, I believe spoony’s better than that. I stand by that rather than my posts.

Idiots… that’s all I can say… he Does Not do this for a living! This is Free entertainment to us! I’m sure badmouthing him is a Great way to build up his confidence. With “fans” like you guys he doesn’t even need bashers… it looks like you have yourself an insatiable fanbase Spoony, don’t worry, they’ll pass in time.

121
JKLMTS September 29, 2009 at 11:11 am

I love how some of you have enough free time to sit here and write 1000 word arguments, counter arguments and needlessly pointless comments about a video that was uploaded for two simple reasons: 1 to entertain you and 2 to keep you busy until his next video is ready. It’s not like he has nothing happening in his life besides these videos, we should be grateful we get anything at all. Whether or not your opinion of the video is positive or not is entirely up to you, I’m not going to bitch and argue in an attempt to change your opinion, but saying he’s lazy just because he took the time to record, edit and come up with an idea for a 5 second movie is just ridiculous. I’d have thought people would have better things to do, I really do.

122
Mirokoshi September 29, 2009 at 11:49 am

I actually thought this one was pretty funny, and over a hundred comments in to this and we finally got some stability to the comments too. still that scene was so much more funny when you see it for the first time in the film. poor miniature-fridge-sized Samuel L Jackson :P

Anyone catch what Cusack said there besides “WHAAAAAAAAAA” and “I want my DRINK”
LOL no caption in the world is able to decipher that outburst, but I wouldn’t blame him being fucked over so many times by that room. That movie was fucked up.

If you saw Zuul in your fridge pray for a quick death. “shudder”

Hey guys me again, gotta bump because of the fighting going on here. I can’t watch any of the blip tv episodes. Not on spooney or TGWTG website. Can anyone help me? My guess is I have ad block on, but it wont work even if I turn it off.

128
kazz kai September 29, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Although I may not agree with your statements good sirs, I will fight to the death for your right to say it. : ) I do applaud the ones who are giving valid points and standing their ground and/or admitting when they made a mistake. I look at the videos this way. Even Wolfgang Puck, easy to remember chef, makes himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich now and then. Sure he can make some roasted duck with an orange glaze sauce with other fancy sounding side dishes but does he really lower himself when he makes a peanut butter sandwich?

Tai MT September 29, 2009 at 4:52 pm

@JKLMTS

Dude, you’re late to the party. Debate has been over for a while now. I have no idea what it is you’re responding to. But, since you came here looking for a fight… Let me do my best to assauge that with logic.

I don’t honestly think anyone made a 1000 word argument or counter-argument. I’ll admit that I’m unnecessarily verbose in my comments or topics or just general chatter…. But I don’t even think I had a 1000-word argument in here. So, perhaps this is just an exaggeration. I think it’s safe to assume it is. Still, why pick 1000? Why not 10,000? Why not a lower number like 500? Is this your way of saying “Too long, didn’t read”? If it is, you’re only pointing out your own inadequacies as a human being.

As for pointless comments…. I would direct you at your own post. But, since “pointless comments” seem to be “in the eye of the beholder” like so many other things… I think it’s best if we leave it up to SPOONY to decide which comments were or were not pointless.

I will agree that something like this was probably put out as a way to entertain, but I doubt it was put out as a “holdover” before his next update. Five seconds of content will hardly hold someone over a single day. To assume it will, is to assume the masses are complete idiots and will endlessly watch anything, simply because it exists. Spoony most likely made these for revenue reasons, entertainment reasons, and as “payback” reasons to some of his friends for Crossover Videos. But, until he actually addresses the reasons he made them, we’ll never know for sure. And we all know what happens when you assume.

We all know Spoony has a life outside of this website. In fact, many of US have a life outside of this website as well. Many have kids, wives, husbands, families, work, school, friends, personal hobbies, etcetera. Most of us know Spoony likely has these things too. We aren’t saying, “give us a real update right now!” Or rather, I’m not, I can’t speak for others. I’m saying that these hardly qualify as an update and are pretty lazy as far as content is concerned.

“we should be grateful we get anything at all.” So… If you really believe this nonsense… Let me ask you a question…

Let’s say you’re a huge fan of someone or something. And for you, this someone or something has typically produced some pretty good content for you. But, suddenly, the content quality slips into the tank and isn’t even measurable on a scale, compared to the typical quality. Are you supposed to just say, “gee, I’m sure glad I at least got SOMETHING!” Or are you supposed to say, “What is going on, why has quality control suddenly gone out the window?” Only a fanboy would answer with the first answer. It’s as mindless and idiotic as it sounds. Do you accept an excrement sandwich from your favorite actor simply because they are your favorite actor? Do you say, “gee whiz! I’m so happy you at least gave me SOMETHING! YOU TOUCHED THIS! IT MUST BE WONDERFUL!”? Seriously and honestly? I can’t see how any sane or intelligent person would think that way.

How obsessive would you have to be in order to only think about getting ANY kind of content, instead of whether or not that content is any good? I would suggest you have a serious disorder and should probably see a psychiatrist of some sort. This may help you out in the long run.

“but saying he’s lazy just because he took the time to record, edit and come up with an idea for a 5 second movie is just ridiculous.” I’m sorry, but several posters (not myself) have already said that this was quite lazy, because of how little effort it takes to utilize the program required to make these things. They haven’t given a timeframe, but I doubt it would even take you twenty minutes to put a five second video together. Especially when you can search YouTube for whatever clips you like. And if it’s not there, you can probably find it elsewhere. The only real complication would be splicing in your own custom footage in with already existing footage. This would be a complication depending on your setup (if you record audio and video separately and at separate times, or if they’re stuck together). It would also be complicated if you had to do several takes in order to get one you wanted to use. But, this would probably hinge on how hard you wanted to make it on yourself, to have five seconds of content.

“I’d have thought people would have better things to do, I really do.” Me too. You know, like not trying to ressurect a dead discussion. Especially without having read any of it. I really would have thought you had better things to do.

Now, since my comment is WAYYYY longer than I intended… I just want to type a few more sentences.

@NyhtShade

An apology post is so rare that I think I will have to copy and paste it into a text document, save it to my harddrive, and maybe print out a copy to hang on my wall. It takes a lot of balls to stand up for what you believe in, but even more to admit when you’ve made a mistake. Whether or not you agree that the Five Second Gags are terrible is not why I’m writing this to you. You see, you did something few internet people ever do. That is, you stepped back and saw just what was being argued. You read the words and tried to understand them instead of jumping straight to an emotional response. This action alone lead you to an apology. Now, I don’t care if I get an apology or not. Across the internet, I never expect to recieve them at all. But, it is nice to get them. What I care about is that you actually learned something very valuable and important. Agree or Disagree, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’ve just set yourself apart from other internet-goers and that will remain with you forever. You have my complete and total respect. If I’ve offended you at any point, I apologize as well. After all, I can’t let you take all the glory, can I? I hope to see you around, even if you end up on the other side of the discussion/debate again. It’ll be more fun next time, I promise.

@kazz kai

You know, that’s an interesting point. I hadn’t thought of it like that. I suppose from time to time, “The Greats” are allowed to “phone it in” and do something reasonably lazy. But, I’d have to say there’s a flaw in your analogy… That is, the cook makes something simple and lazy for HIMSELF, and not for his patrons. Whereas, Spoony has done this for his patrons and not necessarily for himself.

Still, it’s a valid argument and makes a lot of sense. We don’t have to like the peanut butter and jelly sandwich from time to time, but sometimes it just has to be made. And, well, at least it’s cheaper than the 36oz. Top Sirloin with a Baked Potato, Rye Bread, and “drink of choice”.

Still though, I’m not a fan of watching a cook make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. You don’t have much of a show if you spend time making those. Especially since anyone can do it. ~_^

Funny, isn’t it?

Spoony posted this video to help people who really liked his videos pass the time and now there’s entire posts consisting of multiple paragraphs and arguments in here.

You boys are really spending some good timing writing all this stuff.

I think it also shows the power a simple video and a quick joke can have, I mean, would you have made such a big fuss over a long Spoony video?

136
hai September 29, 2009 at 9:14 pm

Alright Spoony. I have been a big fan of yours ever sine you were linked on neogaf game forums. I personally don’t like much of the kids on neogaf (their personality and most of their one liners) but I go there for up to date news. Anyways, I have to say your best stuff comes from the video game reviews where you take the time and play the game and commentate on it (SWAT, Phantasmagoria,final fantasy etc) . These 5 second videos or cross over with those other internet personalities are really hit or miss (mostly miss). I do agree with Bun when he suggested that Spoony sort of jumped the shark after that big retrogeekmeeting.

Also I like to add that your fanboys on this site makes me cringe. Are they capable of enjoying anything without being such a god damn geek about it? Reminds me of neogaf.

I like to think I’m capable of enjoying a great many things without being such a god damn geek about it; Like walking on the beach, or puppies, or programming a web-page with straight XHTML mixed in with XML that was written in some Python resembling code because the author forgot how to comment in english and thought playing a decoder game with Hexadecimal and Java would be MUCH more fun than simply saying , or drinking fine champagne. Just a few things I like to enjoy without being such a god damn geek.

i just wanna say that this movies is about his emotional stress after loosing a child… not about ghosts and gobbles and long legged beasts… that’s why john did a great job at acting…. so if you want a quick scare…. watch Final Fantasy VIII… When one sees the stress and emotional power one has to go through i think it makes the (a) story much better….

Who knew that such a short clip could spark so much goofy-ass debate. I like horror movies to be dime-a-dozen and disposable, 1408 was alright.

I laughed my ass off at this and watched it more than once.
