@Juan

I know I was just joking about that comparising…but I really dont think that One Piece is good, its a bit funny at times, but it gets stupid…and the animation, I really cant get over that xD

I hated when in Dragon Ball Z the art changed in the animation, one time was great and the other was horrible, is like they were trying to piss us off xD

One Piece, here in Portugal, was a little left off passing on TV at 3am…so I went and saw the DVDs because the story looked interesting at first, but after the “Fish men”…what can I say…horrible xD

@ Juan
Oh how embarrassing ,Juan, thank you for correcting me.

The ODD Fox September 19, 2009 at 5:19 pm

yar, what of the Deadpool comics that were recently released. Deadpool issue 13 and 14, where he got an undescribable large amount of booty and decided he wanted to be a pirate, yar.

54
Juan September 19, 2009 at 5:33 pm

@The ODD Fox

fuck, I have to read Deadpool

Nephilim September 19, 2009 at 5:38 pm

*giggle* Noah… this is one of the funniest things you’ve ever done. And having the Monkey Island music just made it complete. Easy up on the Pirates Of The Caribbean music though. Monkey Island is the way to go.

Will Scarlett be appear as Governor Marley? ;)

I’m Spoony Threepwood; Mighty Pirate!

Ashenge September 19, 2009 at 6:10 pm

One Piece has surprising consistency and I enjoy it because the battles are rendered in a serious light. But to really enjoy it, you must understand that it’s for the kids. And yeah, not always very pirate-y. It’s Japan’s TMNT.

59
Ashenge September 19, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Oh, my bad. “I enjoy it because the battles are NOT rendered in a serious light” is what I meant.

60
F Camp September 19, 2009 at 6:14 pm

@Caliban Don Flamingo
Too bad it’s only got 2 shades of colour!

61
Ashenge September 19, 2009 at 6:26 pm

@F Camp

Well that all depends on how close yer eyeballs are to the page, yanno. One Piece has had it’s fair share of toning. Although at first, Oda never did it.

Let’s try to argue both sides of this coin. Yes, One Piece is corny, and the overarcing plot is to find the ultimate treasure of Mr.PlotMan, which somehow started the “age of piracy”. And that’s why it’s hard to really defend it except for using qualifiers like “awesome!” and saying how fast it’s sold copies (which isn’t actually defending it!). But lemme tell you, this is precisely the kinda dosage I need in my comic life. My cup overfloweth with comics that make ballbusting efforts to redefine my personal philosophies. Those comics are like salty chips. One Piece is like… the cola I wash it all down with. The fights are fun, the locations are fun, the character quirks are fun, the story arcs are fairly naked and by the numbers but still fun. So yeah. Take that with a grain of salt.

62
caliche September 19, 2009 at 6:59 pm

the shit is tat one piece became epic after the 300 something cap(ennies lobby and the true history plot thing) until thtat is just awesome…

and naruto it was good until shippuden..tehn in turn into sgit-..and bleach..its…just boring…

63
Caleb September 19, 2009 at 9:06 pm

I liked Black Lagoon.

64
Andrew The Eternal September 19, 2009 at 9:10 pm

I was thinking ‘that bit from Watchman’ the whole time.

Bit sad that the punchline was so obvious; pirates seem like the perfect comic characters, why aren’t there more?

65
Just Sayin' September 19, 2009 at 9:11 pm

Geeze I can’t beleive he missed the “Pirates vs. Ninjas” comic

66
fick dich September 19, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Monkey Island music!! W00t!

67
Aulii September 19, 2009 at 10:58 pm

What, I’m the only one who remembers El Cazador by Crossgen Comics? Granted, it only had, like, six issues and a single “special origin issue of the bad guy” but that’s because the company went bankrupt, not because the comic wasn’t good.

68
BenRGamer September 19, 2009 at 11:22 pm

I don’t know if this has been mentioned before, and the only reason I’m remembering it now is because John DiMaggio (the voice of Bender from Futurama) played the guy, but in Vampire: the Masquerade – Bloodlines, there’s a vampire that was former Pirate, named Smilin’ Jack.

69
Jayson September 19, 2009 at 11:42 pm

I watched all the pirate reviews , some people complain but I enjoyed it. I though someone would mention “One Piece”. I rather enjoy that anime/manga. Its up there with naruto and bleach.

Luffy is probably one of my most favorite anime characters. He has almost no manners , can make goku look like a mensa but at the same time hes very brave and courageous and manages to get on most peoples good side even while behaving like a crazed monkey most of the time.

paradeus September 20, 2009 at 12:31 am

kubano: “I hated when in Dragon Ball Z the art changed in the animation, one time was great and the other was horrible, is like they were trying to piss us off xD”

fun fact #253:
The artist you drew the comic WAS trying to piss of (or at least provoke) his fans who were complaining that his artstyle became too “angular” by drawing EVEN MORE “angular”.

@Spoony: You make a good pirate! Loved those videos. Keep up the good work!

Psi Baka Onna September 20, 2009 at 2:15 am

There is actually a comic out there called “Pirates vs Ninjas”. I haven’t actually been able to get a hold of it but I have read the preview on the official site and it did look rather good. Sadly, I lost the link but it should still be worth hunting it down if ye be a true fan of nautical ventures, yarrr.

72
sublime September 20, 2009 at 2:55 am

Fucking epic

73
ChaosAptom September 20, 2009 at 2:56 am

Polly and the Pirates by Ted Naifeh is a great Pirate comic and of course in Europe, especially France&Belgium there is a whole lot of good Pirate comics:
-”Golden Century” by Andriveau
-”Canoe Bay” by Oger
-and of course the perfect: funny and sad “Cloak and Dagger” by Ayroles
(titles are rough translations, don’t think that there are english versions)

77
Ryoku84 September 20, 2009 at 8:15 am

I was REALLY not amused by this first part, seriously.

78
Ryoku84 September 20, 2009 at 8:24 am

Okay, the last three sucked too but I do agree on One Piece, the animations cheaper than an episode of the old Speed Racer anime and the artists are lazy as there are typically moments when a character will use anothers face or somones head\feet will be the size of basballs or their neck will be a foot long, and the only character that can do these things logically is Luffy since he’s Goku but with Reed Richards powers. Funi has a license to this property too so expect them to milk it like FMA and DBZ and expect that AMV that took so much effort to be taken down too.

79
David Andrew Wiebe September 20, 2009 at 8:26 am

LOL! The best short ever!

80
wqe September 20, 2009 at 9:05 am

What’s that theme that’s playing at the end? I’ve heard it almost everywhere, but I could never identify it

81
Morti September 20, 2009 at 10:06 am

Monkey Island MUSIIIC!

82
FRIG! September 20, 2009 at 12:01 pm

Berserk has pirates in it. And ninjas. And demons. And zombies. And warlords. And an evil God. The list goes on and on. The main character pretty much fights everything imaginable that is awesome and kills it.

83
Rain September 20, 2009 at 1:32 pm

You are a silly silly person.

84
Yoarastrophe September 20, 2009 at 3:04 pm

It does count, in my opinion.

Thank god you didn’t mention One Piece, which in my opinion is just as much about pirates as Naruto is about ninjas. Thank god, and thank YOU.

85
Ashenge September 20, 2009 at 5:06 pm

@Yoarastrophe
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa.

Whoa.

Hold on there, skippy.

As long as I’m not seeing One Piece yaoi on the frontpage of DeviantArt, don’t even speak Naruto in the same breath as One Piece. DO NOT.

86
Adam The Great September 20, 2009 at 8:26 pm

Although ive never read One Piece, I’ve heard its the number one selling manga in japan right now, so that has to count for something. I know people who read it religiously and I have seen the show, and its alright, nothing really special.

87
Paul Rodenburg September 20, 2009 at 8:36 pm

Totally hilarious work.

88
Nov101980 September 20, 2009 at 9:54 pm

I’d say Redbeard but

1) It’s a French comic (proper title is Barbe-Rouge, which means Redbeard)

2) It was never released in America; I downloaded issues from a defunct French comic site.

I don’t understand French too well but, from what I’ve seen from the art, it seems pretty suspensful.

That’s what’s missing in the American comic market: variety. There need to be more pirate comics.

89
wqe September 20, 2009 at 10:20 pm

No – the music playing while the screen’s on the “The end” isn’t from Monkey island. Which one is it?

90
wqe September 20, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Ah – never mind. I figured it out. It’s from the Pirates of the Caribbean OST

91
PhantomSavage September 21, 2009 at 5:51 am

WOOOOOO!!!! THE EPIC RETURN OF SMILING JACK D’ACRY HAS COME!!!! A lot of you young’ns probably don’t know a thing about ol’ Jack, but me memories go waaaaaaaaay back before even this site be built! and I remember that spoony bard’s old video about his role playing Jack D’Acry back all the way back when he be making videos for youtube and youtube alone! WELCOME BACK JACK! WE’VE MISSED YA!!!!

92
Ashenge September 21, 2009 at 12:59 pm

One Piece is one of those few stories where I admit that it’s fully okay to skip way ahead in the story. It’s like 500 chapters right now. It starts getting really epic at the Water 7/Ennies Lobby arc. I would recommend checking that out. It begins at chapter 322.

93
I am here September 21, 2009 at 1:03 pm

Isaac the Pirate. Does Corto Maltese count?

94
Meshi September 21, 2009 at 2:02 pm

I’m going to have to make the obligatory One Piece recommendation here.

95
Adam Cuerden September 21, 2009 at 8:37 pm

What about European comics, like Barbe Rouge, or… um… the bits with the pirates in Asterix which poke fun of Barbe Rouge.

96
preston September 22, 2009 at 1:49 am

should have cheted and said prites of the black fraighter

97
Pyro Jack September 22, 2009 at 4:22 pm

Number 1!!!

Uhhh errrrrrrr

One Piece!!!

As long as it isn’t the 4Kids version and you can get used to the art style (Very different than most Manga) it’s the most popular series in Japan right now!

98
Matteus September 22, 2009 at 5:53 pm

honestly, the Black Freighter thing was the only part of The Watchmen I liked. I was more concerned with the conclusion of that story than with the main one

99
zacman September 22, 2009 at 7:52 pm

that was the FIRST and ONLY thing i could think of
