FMV Hell – Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers

by Scarlett on May 13, 2008 · 45 comments

Our journey into FMV Hell gets even more horrifying as The Spoony One confronts the nefarious Rita Repulsa in the Sega CD game Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers.

It’s morphin’ time!

Old school Power Rangers were the shit, man.

wow, this takes me back

Simon January 7, 2009 at 5:41 pm

They were the only way to go. And that team never would’ve been complete without Bruce Campbell

The original Power Rangers kicked ass! But the newer generations are just sad. I mean “Ninja Force”?

Hey!, lay off the green ranger, he was awesome, he was so awesome that he just kinda became the leader overnight one day without ever actually having to challenge the red one for the authority…it just sorta happened gradually as everyone began acknowledging him as the leader for some reason.

…of course he ‘did’ randomly become the uber white-ranger of untouchable asskickingness which, while initially was pretty cool, did end up starting the series down its path of ridiculous idiot-plots and nonsensical ‘weird and new for the sake of weird and new’ crap like the alien rangers or that dude with the laser sword who got his own crappy spinoff for some reason.

Aside from that though, he ‘was’ the reason I loved that show as a kid.

You just mixed my two favorite things from my childhood, Power Rangers and Ocrina of Time. Thats…. freaking…. awesome!!

I stoped watching Power Rangers after the movie came out, Mighty Morphin’ are the only kind of rangers!

Dude, Colonel should TOTALLY come out of the screen and smack you for trying to skip cutscenes in MGS.

Also, is it just me or did you add a subtle little smoke squib effect when Marky-Mark shot you?

I think the green ranger fits into the dino thing because dragon’s are lizardish…and the mastodon and saber tooth are both extinct so…

Aznator February 28, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Aren’t you Marky Mar- *BOOM*

11
RageTreb March 1, 2009 at 5:34 am

Technically pterodactyls aren’t dinosaurs either.

Ryan The Gamer March 2, 2009 at 10:36 am

Yes Bruce Campbel, Chuck Norris, Steven Segal, Jet Li, and Triple H would make the best power rangers team ever. I demand Hollywood gets on getting those men together for a show right now.

13
BlaqDove March 5, 2009 at 7:42 am

omg, totally agree with Ryan the Gamer, those would be awesome power rangers, i would watch it even if the rest of it was just as bad as the power rangers that are on nowadays, are they still actually on? i don’t watch tv much anymore so i don’t know,

I ROFL’d at the Saria’s Song part! :D

Ryuho209 March 22, 2009 at 12:02 am

You know, they actually did make a side-scroller Power Rangers game for the NES. It’s KICK-ASS!

HAHA! Thinking back… the first generation was pretty good. This game seems a bit like Guitar Hero… except instead of a stupid guitar, its watching power rangers battles. I guess the only thing you may get is to watch battles you enjoyed…

Chuckle at my “nerdiness”. I saw this and, realizing I had -never- seen the first episode, youtubed it. About 10 minutes in I was getting annoyed… AUTOMATONS CAN’T BE SENTIENT! BILLY IS A N00B! Those lines that made you think WTF if you ever watched the show HAD DIRECT CONTRADICTIONS IN THEM! Huzzah oxymorons!

CRAZEY ASIAN May 23, 2009 at 2:41 pm

i remember when i still watched power rangers but like spoony said they just change so quickley its hard to fallow the plot and the show had to many random exploshins

Agh! My tiny arms!

I still don’t understand why so many people like Power Rangers so much. The first generation was like 90-95% dubbed over the original japanese version. The adaptated story contradicted itself and made no sense.

26
Schmee July 2, 2009 at 9:35 am

Who the hell is she, Frieza?

27
zachary July 4, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Power rangers has 17 seasons and is just an American version of a japanese show.

No Bulk and Skull?! Thats inexcuseable.

KaitBunny July 13, 2009 at 5:06 am

The messed up thing about Power Rangers is that, even though I never liked them, watching this still makes me happy and nostalgic. It was back when I hated the same things that everyone else did. Now? Flo Rida? You’ve lost me.

Funny review, but dude, come on. You make a reference to Dead to Rights. Now THAT’S a shitty game you should review.

34
matthew August 1, 2009 at 10:31 am

i love the bit with mgs but what i think you should say is this: imangine playing mgs2 and your trying to skip the codec sences only for solid snake to come through the screen point a gun at your chin and saying hey listen you listen to what he saids or your dead.

35
matthew August 1, 2009 at 10:35 am

alpha ritas escaped bring me triple h, randy orton, rey mysterio, john cena, batista and the undertaker.

you could had used that but im not argueing about it im just saying.

36
OniYouji August 11, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Hey, I kind of liked those timing things in RE4 and Indigo Prophecy. >.<

Ah, hell, I can see why this game would tarnish those anyways.

37
Carlos August 16, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Having Chuck Norris, Jet Li, Steven Sagal, Triple H, and Bruce Campbell definitely would have made the show a lot more interesting.

You just see Chuck Norris going Rambo on everyone, while Triple H whacks people with a Sledgehammer and Jet Li cuts them to bits with a sword, and ect.

Does anybody know what song he used at the end? I know I’ve heard it before!

The woman who played Rita Repulsa in the original series, Machiko Soga, died a few years ago after a long battle with cancer, may she rest in peace.

Jore2589 September 26, 2009 at 6:05 pm

At the end, isn’t that the music from the movie Glory at the part where Matthew Broderick gets shot and dies?

42
chrisbg99 October 3, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Punishment for skipping cutscenes? Man, I’m glad Hideo Kojima didn’t see that.

43
Agentbromsnor October 7, 2009 at 8:15 pm

Damn, I always hated Power Rangers, even as a kid…

44
Barbed Biohazard October 18, 2009 at 5:56 pm

This review is hilarious. I rewatch it everytime for the joke at 7:46 with Rita sippin on Gin and Juice. I swear if I could make that into my avatar I would.
